Notes

02/28/2025 - I will be using the worsted weight yarn from my original boat neck Weekender that I frogged. Based on my gauge swatch from that sweater, I think I will be knitting the size 3 for this sweater but will compare cast on stitch counts with the original Weekender pattern.

  1. Once I bought the pattern, compared it to my worsted weight gauge swatch and the stitch counts for the original Weekender, I decided on knitting the stitch counts for size 3 to get the positive ease I am looking for.
  2. I added 1/2” extra length to the body. I got another 1/2” length when I wet blocked the sweater for a total of 1” longer than the pattern schematic. I’m glad I got the extra length as I think it might have been a bit too cropped for my style preferences if I had not added the length.
  3. I knit to the front/back yoke to the length of the size 5.
  4. I picked up size 2 stitch counts for the neckband. I originally knit the 2” of ribbing, but decided it looked a bit “heavy”, so I took it back to 1 1/2”.
  5. I picked up the size 5 stitch counts for sleeves. This was about a 3 for every 4 stitches count: I picked up 2 stitches, skipped a stitch, then picked up a 3rd stitch.
  6. I originally knit 1” more length in the sleeve. After blocking, it became very evident that the extra length had not been needed. In fact, my sleeves were a solid 2” too long, so I picked out the bind-off, remove the extra length and reknit my rib cuff. To match the neckband ribbing, I only knit 1 1/2” of ribbing for the cuff before binding off.
  7. I originally only knit 1 pocket as I was playing yarn chicken. Once I had it sewn on, I did not like the asymmetry, so I decided to knit a 2nd pocket. I had to frog my swatches to farm enough yarn for a 2nd pocket.
