Notes

Needed a light hat for spring/autumn weather that we seem to have more now, even in winter!
I wanted the hat to be not too tight to avoid hat hair look so went for 114 stitches. Other mods:

  • use intarsia in the round method to avoid purling the ridges: when the instruction says to purl for 6 rows, I turn hat inside out, use German short row technique and start knitting, the same for returning to knit rows on right side
  • fisherman’s rib instead of normal ribbing to make it looser
  • 4 repeats of purl ridge and rib, 5 rows of purl and narrower band of ribbing in the last repeat - following other knitters’ ideas
  • attempted another purl ridge in the crown to keep the look and fudged the decreases. I like the ruffled look, somehow the less polished result suits the mood of the hat
  • colourful pom-pom by using scraps of yarn that I redacted from the skeins when fixing the interruptions in colour between skeins and in yarn breaks within skeins. Love Noro, hate inconsistencies in colour due to breakages!
