Great to have a multi-size pattern in DK and Aran weights and very kind of Alison to share the pattern! The pants come out very cute and look comfortable for the baby as they are seamless. One thing I did not like about the look of Disana are thick ridges of seams on the sides, I think I will put them inside out when the time comes!
Most of the patterns is straightforward knitting in the round which I enjoy as it goes quickly. I thought of adding a pattern but decided that I may do so for the next pair once I’ve got the pattern figured out.
The yarn I used is slightly thinner than DK, more like sport weight so I used thinner needles to make it denser and knitted the next size up to compensate. Still, trying to keep it reasonably light as it’s going to be used in the summer months, do not want the LO overheating!
Simple start: used alternating cast-on for stretch and beauty, then rib (changed to 1x1 to increase stretch), a few short rows for the back rise (used YO short row method) and knitting in the round in stockinette.
When the instructions tell you to “Place a stitch marker and continue to the end of the round” I think it places the marker at centre front and then it’s not mentioned again so I ignored that. I kept the centre back marker instead and that’s the important one.
Was not sure what I was doing when instructions came to stop at centre back marker.
My notes: the point of that round is to separate (in order of knitting): knit stitches of half of the back, separate stitches for leg opening (put on holder or scrap yarn), front of the soaker (leaving them on the circular needle), the other leg (put on holder or scrap yarn) and stitches for the back of the pants which you knit onto a straight or DP needle and proceed to knit back and forth decreasing either side, leave the resulting 22 stitches on the needle.
Knit the front “flap” decreasing either side to the same number of stitches, graft together with the 22 stitches of the back. Pick up the requisite number of stitches for each leg opening and knit on DPNs in rib to desired length.
To me at least it helps to understand what I should do before I follow the instructions hence notes for myself and hope it helps someone else as well
For the next pair for the next size up I will try to knit a slip stitch pattern in the centre to boost the thickness in the critical area. Watch this space!
