Modifications: I’m using a lighter weight yarn and smaller needle so I increased the pattern by 6 repeats - 301 stitches.
Also decided to do stockinette in the body rather than garter, only because I’ve already given a similar shawl to the same person with lace and garter. I got the short row concept from Annis but I used the instructions from Arroyo … see below.
Construction notes - so far:
After the lace was done I purled a row (row 35) before starting the body. 301 stitches.
I used markers in the turn gaps because sometimes it was not clear where the gap was because of the lace.
BODY
R1 (RS) - k155, place marker, turn work
R2 (WS) - p9, p2tog, p3, place marker, turn work
R3 (RS) - k to stitch before gap, remove marker, ssk, k3, place marker, turn work (if you’re using markers, you have to move the before-gap stitch to the right needle, remove the marker, move the stitch back to the left needle, close the gap with the ssk, k3, then place the marker and turn your work.)
R4 and beyond - purl or knit to the stitch before the marker, move the before-gap stitch to the right needle, remove the marker, move that stitch back to the left needle, p2tog or ssk to close the gap, purl or knit the next 3 stitches, place your marker and turn.
When the short rows were done I had two stitches left on each end so I just knitted them. Ended up with an odd number of stitches when I started the edge but I can’t remember how many (oops!).
EDGE
I repeated the last row of the chart (s1, yo, k2tog repeat to the end), then did three rows of garter and a suspended bind off from the wrong side.
Blocked with wires.
Finished measurements (not as big as I thought it would be):
53 x 16
Very nice pattern, simple but the lace requires concentration. I messed up at one point and didn’t catch the mistake until several rows later. It was a painful correction so check your lace repeats as you do them.
The yarn is wonderful -- soft, supple, handles frogging well. Not so stretchy though so be careful on the bind off if you use this or similar yarn. I tried several bind offs but the suspended bind off worked best, it gives the edge some body but doesn’t have that tight-as-twine feel.
Early photos are terrible, sorry, but I got a new phone and the camera is much better. By the way, the Ravelry mobile site and Ravelous app are both great!!! I used them to upload the remaining pictures.
