5/11/13: PROS and CONS:
The bind off turned out to be too tight as it’s written - I wish I’d seen Clare’s project notes before I did the bind off.
This yarn is comparable to the recommended yarn but my Henslowe appears to be much smaller than the model. If I knit this again with the same yarn weight, I’ll go up at least one needle size and add another Roman Stripe to the wrap to make it bigger. It could also be that the tight bind off prevented me from being able to block it into a bigger size.
Finished size is 44 wide on the bind-off edge, about 50 inches wide at the widest point of the lace, and 19 inches deep.
Amazing yarn, so, so soft. Once I started knitting with it I worried that it wouldn’t work with this pattern but it grew on me. Probably not the right gray tone for Maryanne - it’s an almost pewter. The texture is marvelous, the appearance is more rustic with long, black alpaca hairs woven in, but it’s still makes very nice lace, especially if you like undyed fibers.
I really love the pattern, it’s a wonderfully easy and interesting knit. A little confusing at the end of the suspended bind off, I couldn’t follow the instructions so I just winged it, ended up with a little bump in the edge that blocked out with no problem.
Overall I’m very happy with it but it’s really small -- will have to knit another one for Maryanne by 5/26/13! Better get moving …
