1/13/14 -- socks are finished, used Jenny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off to finish.
Next time I’ll take better measurement notes along the way. I’m not sure how many stitches I had across the foot, so not sure I had 56 in the toe as stated below. I know I increased for the leg a bit so I may have started with 48 and ended with 56.
1/5/14 -- I used a toe up pattern to do this and had to take the beginning out several times because it was too big. Settled on 56 stitches on size 3 needles. I had trouble conceptualizing how to do the heel until I bought and reviewed Donna Druchuna’s Original Toe Up Socks class from Craftsy.com. This is a really helpful resource and worth the cost of the class. I had already knitted the toe, foot and gusset and I lucked out on the measurements because I kept trying the sock on as I knitted it, and also because she had a sock pattern that started exactly the same way.
Next time I will follow the whole tutorial to get the measuring process down. This pattern was the best construction for me, no picking up stitches along the heel flap. Once the toe and foot are knit, the gusset increases are added on either side, the heel turn is done inside of the original stitches, then the gusset stitches are picked up, row by row, as you knit the heel flap. It worked out great.
Finished the heels and legs and did a ‘stretchy’ cast off but it wasn’t as stretchy as I needed so I’m taking it out, need to figure out another cast off for the sock.
9/12 -- Will attempt to convert this pattern to toe up using another toe-up pattern as a guide. Will see how it goes.
