Modified for worsted weight but love the flag design! Co 96 stitches on 7s and join in the round.
Knit 3 rows red and 3 rows white until 2 inch rib.( two stripes each)
Switch to 8s. K 3 rounds red and 3 rounds white until 2 inches of Ss (again two stripes of each color)
Start stars. Knit 3 rows blue.
row 4 Knit 5 blue, k1 white. repeat to end of round
Knit 2 rounds blue
row 7 knit 2 blue, k1 white, k5 blue, K1 white repeat to end of round
knit 2 rows blue.
repeat pattern until 7 rows of stars are completed or hat is approx 8 3/4 inches long. End with 3 rows blue.
Kitchener the top or turn inside out and do 3 needle bind off. I did kitchener.
