30 April 2018: Finished! Plenty of yarn… I could’ve made it longer if I’d wanted to, but I’m happy with the length I ended up at. I had a total of 11 pattern repeats (from the neckline). Did a Rinse & Spin cycle on the front loader using Soak in the fabric softener cubby, then dried it on “delicates.” It came out soft and drapey with no pilling—couldn’t be more pleased! Of course, now we’re probably beyond appropriate temperature for wearing for this year, sigh…
I did end up with crazy big holes under the arms, so not sure what I did wrong on her armhole instructions (which were a new technique for me). I got them closed up after the fact. I also struggled a bit with the Kitchener on the sleeve i-cord bind off… I feel like I should’ve done a provisional CO or something? I don’t think I picked up the CO stitches correctly, so the join looks weird.
13 March 2018: Almost done with the last body repeat before the bottom border. I’m a little worried I’m going to be playing yarn chicken on the sleeves… I might’ve made the body too long. :/
16 Dec 2017: I had decided to increase a bit more on the back A-line increases. My initial plan was to do these every 10th row (instead of every 20th). I think I may actually add more; considering doing a back increase each time I do a front increase (or maybe 8th row instead of 10th). Want to get just a bit more A-line shaping starting at the bottom of the bust. I figure that this is easy enough to rip back if I don’t like how it’s coming out.
30 Nov 2017: Finally joined body. Loving how this is coming out… the fit is just the way I’d like it!
17 Nov 2017: Based on pattern recommendations and the fact that Wollmeise is reported to grow, I decided to cast on for size L (42” bust). As with other sweaters/cardigans I’ve made, I’m using my bust size for the top and then plan to add extra waist increases (small bust and big hips makes choosing a size challenging).
I get 6 st/in in st st on the 4s, so I think this should work out to just where I want it—close to a L but just a bit roomier without it being as big as the XL.
A note on the name:
The yarn colorway name means “tender bud” in German, and the same day I cast on, I received the MOST AWESOME PROJECT BAG EVER from my friend Kathryn. It’s from the Etsy seller KatKnits and is hand-dyed in a special colorway she calls “Fatal Atmosphere.” I thought it was a good juxtaposition, especially since the acid green could also read as radioactive.
