26 Feb 2019: I had picked this up again recently and was making good progress. And then… I dropped an edge stitch. And the nearest lifeline was 10” back. And I decided I was just done with this insanity! I can’t even frog it as the yarn is not amenable to frogging. Sigh. At least it feels good to have some closure on the project.
8 Apr 2017: STILL slogging through this. It’s slow going. Not sure how much it will grow (or how much I can make it grow) with blocking… but right now, I’m only at 36” long, and it should be almost twice that. /cry I keep putting it down to work on other things because it’s fussy and every row seems like it takes longer than it should.
15 Apr 2016, update: BOOYAH. I started to frog back to my lifeline (which was waaaayyyyy back), and I realized that I could probably just frog back to the row before the screw up and successfully reload the stitches. It actually worked! (My epiphany is that the lace is only every other row—the WS rows were manageable for reloading.)
15 Apr 2016: Have been picking this up off and on… not much knitting time lately, and balancing with other projects. Screwed up and dropped a cussing stitch last night while trying to correct scoopage of the wrong thing during one of the CDDs, SIGH. I could probably soldier on, but I think I might rip back to my lifeline. Wishing I’d put in another one closer to where I was. :( Lesson learned (maybe, hah)… and need to just buckle down and power through it. It’s still fiddly enough that I have to really pay attention, or I screw up (like last night) and accidentally scoop something I’m not supposed to during the CDD. Not good TV knitting, for sure.
11 Feb 2016: New Addis arrived! Moved this over to the Turbo Lace needles and am MUCH happier. It’s still not fast knitting for me—I have to pay close attention to the CDDs—but now at least I am not overwhelmed by the thought of trying to make some progress on it. The right tools make a huge difference!
8 Feb 2016: This has been in limbo for a LONG while! I got frustrated with my needles (regular Addi Turbos). I ordered a pair of Addi Turbo Rockets and a pair of Addi Turbo Lace; they should arrive Thursday. Having a pointier tip should help considerably, I think I might want the grippier brass, especially when I’m tired.
6 March 2015: Cast on using Åsa Tricosa’s winding provisional cast on. I don’t know what possessed me to think I could make a ball of alpaca/silk yarn work as a center pull… I paid for that mistake by having to rewind it from the other end and cut out a big tangle of yarn barf. SIGH. (I probably should’ve started over instead of cutting/joining my yarn, but I hate working the beginning of provisional cast ons, and at least the join is pretty inconspicuous.)
Planning to use a modified ssk (slip first as if to knit, slip second as if to purl, etc.). This was how ssk was done in my Golden October shawl, and they seemed neater.
