Notes

This pattern, as written, is meant for dainty little hands. If you posses normal hands, like myself, you’ll need to do some serious modding to get these to fit.

Followed Mariamaria’s mod to make these into Glittens.

My gauge was a bit tighter. 4-1/2 stitches per inch.

Fixing flaring Cuff
I was not fond of this pattern as written. I had to make several changes to make the mittens fit. First, instead of a normal stretchy cast on I used long-tail, since when I used a stretchy cast on (such as a twisted German Cast on) the cuff ended up flaring out obnoxiously. Additionally, I CO and completed the first 6 rows with a size 7 needle, and switched to a size 8 when I started the first cable.

Adding Width
I thought the palm was too tight, so I added 2 extra stitches to the palm, added them directly on the outside of the markers for the thumb gusset.

I also thought the top of the mitten was too tight on my fingers, so I added 3 extra stitches the stockinette side of the mittens after I added the mod, which changed my decreases.

Moving Thumb Gusset
The thumb gusset was way to shallow for me, I needed to move it up quite a bit. I accomplished this by following the pattern as written for completing the thumb gusset (which starts on row 41). But, instead of moving stitches to a holder and Co 2 at row 56, I continued on with the pattern as written until I reached row 63, which I then put the thumb gusset on scrap yarn and CO 2

Adding Length
I also did an extra repeat of rows 57-63 and 62-70 to reach a total of 12 cables (this allowed the mittens to be long enough for my hands, which up until this point I had presumed were of normal length)

Glitten
I added the mod when I reached row 58 for a second time (I repeated rows 57-63 twice)

Decreasing
I also altered the decreases (specifically concerning the cabling) to make it appear less bulky. The following concerns ONLY to the cabling section of the mitten (from Purl to Purl) including adding rest rows so I wasn’t decreasing directly on-top of a decrease.

Row 79 - same
Row 79.5 rest row (knit the knit, purl the purl)
Row 80 - … p1, p2tog, k2tog, k4, k2tog, p2tog, p1
Row 80.5 rest row (knit the knit, purl the purl)
Row 81 - … p2tog, k2tog, k2, k2tog, p2tog
Row 81.5 rest row (knit the knit, purl the purl)
Row 82 - k2tog around (throw in a k3tog if you have uneven stitches)

I’ll add pictures once they’re blocked and dried.
