Yarn
This is the kind of yarn combo that just gets softer after washing! It’s definitely going to pill because of how soft it is, but that’s to be expected.

I was really surprised by how little memory the wool had. I reknit the yoke and the yarn had barely set and once it knit up, I couldn’t actually tell it had been reknit. (I only ran into issues with it clinging to itself, but only barely). Because of that, I went down to a size 9 for the ribbing on the cuffs because I don’t like loose cuffs and I wasn’t confident it would bunch up.

Pattern
This is my first time doing drop shoulders. I went with the smaller side of positive ease. I measure in around 37 inches at the bust and so went for the second size for about 6 inches of ease.

I would definitely knit this again! It’s such a straightforward pattern that I was going through a bunch of possible iterations while I was knitting it.

I think it could make a really cute color block sweater with maybe some patch pockets. Since it’s knit flat, you could also do some hecking cute intarsia details as well! With the self striping yarn I was using, I couldn’t help but imagine a cool inlaid star or diamond on the back, almost like a wood inlay.

I would also try out the full 10 inches positive ease, just to see how it felt. I forget that large cardigans hit different than large pullovers for me!

Thought I’d track weight of the yarn for anyone interested in playing yarn chicken with me and with a similar gauge.

Starting weights
cascade eco duo: 82.5 g
palette bare: 105 g

Swatched with eco alone and then held double with palette on 10s, but needed the bump up to 10.5 to get gauge

01/26/2022

Had to restart the entire cardigan on Sunday(1/23) but! I was able to finish the entire body today and pick up stitches for the sleeves! Four days knitting off and on!

Body weight
Eco: 82.5 + 100 + 32.5 = 215 g
Palette: 105 - 13.5 = 91.5 g

starting weight for sleeves
Eco : 67.5 g
Palette: 13.5

I have a little wedge from the first iteration that’s inflating my body weight numbers, but I can at least give an estimate

Finished the first sleeve last night!

Sleeve yarn weight:
eco: 67.5 - 8.5 = 59 g
Bare pallette: 13.5 + (104-103) = 14.5 g

01/30/2022

Thought I would remember some weight numbers but I didn’t and now the sleeve weights aren’t coming out similar but they are definitely the same size…

second sleeve yarn weight:
Eco: 8.5 + (100-47) = 61.5
Palette: 103 - 65.5 = 37.5
