Once upon a grumpy day, my niece presented me with this drawing; “Because I know whales make you happy!”

Invited to participate in the Child’s Play CAL, I hope to capture the happiness and love in a crocheted version of her drawing.

I luv it! Stuffed lightly for pose-ability. Next time my niece visits, I am going to give it to her :)

Had grand plan to make the tail flukes firm and poseable and flattish and tapered from both sides to the edge by crocheting 2 sts into each back bump of the starting chain then crocheting around every 2nd st on one side and continue around other side using the skipped sts. Turned out to be reallllly difficult to find those skipped sts from the other side so I ripped back and added bobby pin markers to every st I planned to skip with the bobby pin ends poking out to the side they would be worked on. Lots of bobby pins but worked like a charm, allowing me to give a gentle lift with the bobby pin to insert the hook in the correct place every time.
