Notes

21/07 - Yay! My yarn finally arrived today, which means I can start on the July KAL with the VLT group, only 20 days late… So far, after 2 repeats, the project is going well. I’m not even minding the lack of rest row or the SSPs. The short repeats make it feel a bit like instant gratification, but doing 40 of them will probably take the feeling away. I think I may go for 36. I’m petite after all.

23/07 - 6 pattern repeats. I love the yarn/pattern combination for this. This was one of the first patterns I wanted to do in VLT, but I couldn’t figure out what colour I wanted… until I saw the Lost Lake Heather, which is sooooo much nicer a colour in person than on Knit Picks website. I think the photos I have give a good idea of the colour, but not of the subtle heathering of the yarn, a phenomenon I love in general, but I think is particularly fitting for a leafy lace.

28/07 - 10 pattern repeats, bha ha ha ha.

31/07 - 14 pattern repeats: I got two done (with a couple of messy issues that I had to fix) on a road trip. The knitting was fine in the car, but fixing lace mistakes in a moving vehicle is not really great.

06/08 - 15 repeats. There’s no way I will finish this during the Olympics, but I had to tag it so I wouldn’t feel so bad if I worked on it then. I’d love to finish this by the end of August, but it’s been pretty busy, so it doesn’t look likely.

08/08 - 16 repeats = more than 1/3 done. Yay!

16/08 - 17 repeats. I really like this pattern, but it’s going to have to hibernate while I focus on finishing up a couple old WIPs and a couple of gifts.

22/08 - took a short break from my Ravelympic knitting to do one repeat on this to see how 18 repeats blocked to gauge whether I wanted to do 36 or 40. Still undecided, but I’m glad I did because I found a couple dropped stitches halfway through. How they formed defied logic, but since I spotted them I was able to weave some yarn through them and anchor them in before things got worse. I don’t think you can tell from the RS, so all is well.
18 repeats blocked to 13 x 29 “

01/09 - Woot! halfway through the centre panel.

03/09 - 23 repeats

07/09 - GAH! I just realized that I don’t think I’ve slipped my boarder stitches AT ALL since I picked this up again after the Ravelympics, which is, like 8 repeats worth of boarder stitches. Oh well. While I’m sure it won’t be as nice, I will just deal with this when I get to the knit-on boarder, because there is no way I am frogging all that work. Now at 27 repeats.

08/09 - Used up the first ball of yarn in the middle of repeat 28.

09/09 - 31 repeats done. More that 75% of the body done!

20/09 - Finished row 37 bright and early this morning while waiting for my secondary comprehensive examination. The next three rows will be conquered this weekend.

21/09 - I finished the final three rows and began the border, which feels good. However, my calculation of stitches was off, so rather than being done 90 percent of the shawl (which I will admit I was suspicious of) when finishing the body, it’s more like 70%. Well 28/176 repeats of the border done. And only three months into it.

22/09 - turned the first corner. I’m 1/3 way through the border. Yay!

24/09 - turned the second corner. Halfway there.

29/09 - All done! It’s soaking right now. Unblocked size 13.5” x 58”
