I wanted to make a couple of sock monkey outfits but couldn’t find a full pattern for exactly what I wanted, so I decided on the hat pattern first and then searched for a generic baby outfit pattern I could modify. I really love how versatile the Baby Sweater Buffet pattern is!

I did the basic baby sweater with the snowsuit option, but did it in sock monkey colors on the body and sleeves and figured out (using a graphical editor) how to add the ‘sock heel’ oval patterns in the back.

Decided to do a tail as well but didn’t know if they’d want it on there all the time (seems like it would be uncomfortable lying on it) so I added a little flap above the ‘sock heel’ on the back that has two small yarn-over buttonholes--just picked up the fronts of some of the stitches and knitted it right on. The tail is just a tube with a little flap on the top on which I added two buttons.

The suit in traditional sock monkey colors is 12 month-sized (both hat and outfit). The blue outfit is newborn-sized.
