Notes

10-22-2013: Emma is 14 years old today - just got her braces off …and she has bees flying around her head. Life is good.
10-17-2013: Made a softball hairbow to go along with.
Emma is on a new fastpitch softball team called the Sandlot Bees. They start playing in March (brrrr) so my very first thought upon hearing this was “how can I help keep this girl warm without interfering with her uniform?” A headband came to mind.
Here is what I did:
Using old Norwegian cast-on or German Twisted cast-on and Size 4 16” circs, cast on 102 sts, place marker and join.
Round 1-2, K1, P1 ribbing.
Switch to yellow. Rounds 3-5, K one round, P one round, K one round.
Switch to Size 6 16” circs, and using black, K every round for 16 rows.
Switch back to Size 4 16” circs and yellow yarn. Next 3 rounds with yellow: K one round, P one round, K one round.
Switch to black yarn, and K1, P1 ribbing for 2 rounds. BO in pattern.
I used this great little bee chart thanks to Amy “Baroque Pearls” to duplicate-stitch the bees evenly around the band (6 bees).

I plan to make another one for my niece. Her team has the same colors as Emma’s, but are called the Colorado Stars. So her headband will have stars instead of bees.
I also am considering putting two little pockets on the inside of the headbands at ear position to hold those little air-activated hand warmer pouches. That should do it (if they will wear the headband!).
