Notes

Fell in love with a dark red fishermans rib sweater last Christmas and decided to do my own take on it.

I bought a cashmere/cotton mix from Colourmart’s clearance section for a bargain. The original color was “tomato red” so I dyed it a darker burgundy red.

The top of the sweater took a lot of inspiration from Wollweg’s “Sixty Years” sweater though I completely changed the body patterning. The body is basically just stockinette with a third of twisted ribbing.

Gauge: on 3.5mm needles, I had 23 st in stockinette, 26.5 in (half-)twisted ribbing and 32 rows to get 10x10cm.

Instructions:
CO 141 st with provisional CO. 6 rows stockinette, then place markers as follows: BOR, k45 st, pm, k25, pm, k26, pm, k45. Knit in body pattern with 2/3 stockinette stitch (st st) and 1/3 half-twisted rib (htr) for 10 rows as follows: slm, k45, (k1tbl, p1)12, k1tbl, slm, (k1tbl, p1)13, slm, k45. This bit will later be folded over and sewed for a little standing neck.
Note: I tried knitting it shut and it just folded over too much so I sewed it instead.

Shoulder increases
Since the increases are every round, it is slightly tricky to get the increases to look neat. I’ve achieved it by doing knit into the stitch below increases on the knit side and doing m1 increases for knit increases in turn with knit into the stitch below increases for purl increases on the htr bit.
Increase row: slm, inc1, k to marker, slm, htr to marker, inc1, slm, inc1, htr to marker, slm, k to marker, inc1
Repeat increase row 30 times.

Then, split the sweater into front and back for the sleeves. For me, the bit after the BOR is the back. So I did knit across back, BO 3 stitches, knit across front, and turn. Then just continue body pattern on the WS by purling the purls, and ptbl/k for the ktbl/p htr bit.
Knit front for 53 rows in total ending on a WS round. Break yarn.

Rejoin yarn for the back on the RS. BO 3 stitches, body pattern. Do 53 rows in total, ending on a RS.

Rejoin the pieces with a k2tog, then knit 1 round in body pattern, placing markers for BOR and middle of htr.

Begin decreases every other round for 25 rows, doing 13 decreases in total.

Knit body pattern for 29 more rows.

Then begin hip increases:
R1: increase row, m2 next to each marker
R2 - 6: body pattern.
Repeat R1 - R6 two more times.

Knit just body pattern for 52 rows.

Begin ribbing: after BOR, k to htr part, htr to stockinette section, begin htr ribbing to 2 stitches before BOR marker. dec2, slm, dec2, continuing htr for 20 rows.

BO in pattern.

Sleeve on stockinette side
Pick up 76 stitches (roughly 2 out of every 3 rows)
Place marker, stockinette for 30 rows.
R1: decrease to each side of BOR
R 2 - 14: stockinette
Repeat R1 - R14 two more times.
Repeat R1. Repeat R2 7 times. Repeat R1. Repeat R2 6 times.

Begin htr by decreasing on each side of BOR. Knit htr for 12 rows. Decreases in htr are slightly tricky so it’s best to do:
R1: decrease
R2: in pattern
R3: decrease
R4 - R14: in pattern

Repeat R1 - R14 two more times. Knit pattern for 21 more rows. BO in pattern.

Twisted rib sleeve

Pick up 84 stitches and knit half-twisted rib for 29 rows.
R1: decrease
R2: in pattern
R3: decrease
R3 - 18: in pattern
R19: decrease
R20: in pattern
R21: decrease
R22 - R30: in pattern

Switch to stockinette, dec 2 on each side of BOR
R1 - R7: stockinette
R8: decrease
R8 - 15: stockinette
R16: decrease
R17 - 23: stockinette
R24: decrease
R25 - R30 stockinette

Begin htr plus decrease on each side of BOR. Htr for 12 rows.
R1: decrease
R2: in pattern
R3: decrease
R4 - R14: in pattern
Repeat R1 - R14 two more times.
Knit htr for 10 rows.
BO in pattern.
