Notes

Not really following the pattern, just using row 24-42 of Chart 1A.

CO 66 sts using Tillbuddy’s stretchy cast on. Knit one row flat before joining in the round. BOR is centre back.

1 x 1 rib 16 rows.

2 rows plain main colour. 1 row CC. 1 row MC. 5 rows alternating (checkerboard pattern). 1 row MC. 1 row CC. 2 rows MC. start colourwork chart 1A row 26. remove 6 sts from chart, which is for 72 sts but I have 66. Remove stitch 36-38 and 72, 1 and 2 from chart. Start row at stitch 19. Use ladderback jacquard technique from the Criterion Sweater pattern to trap long floats.

After the chess pieces are done, 2 plain rows in MC then 1 row in CC. After that 6 plain rows in MC before starting the heel flap over 33 sts (with previous BOR being in the middle of those stitches). Use Eye of Partridge. 32 rows of heel flap. Dutch heel with 11 sts in each section, ssk on one side and p2tog on the other.

After heel flap is done, pick up 16 sts on each side. Work 1 rows in which you knit extra stitch together to prevent holes (have effectively picked up 15 sts along each edge of heel flap). Then start decreasing every other row to 64 sts. Work 38 rows straight before toes.
