Aug-18-08: This is finished - I just need to take pictures!
Final Note with pictures: So the idea after I picked the yarn is that I really wanted to make a pair of fishnets. I wanted them to be fun and sassy, but not so sleazy that I looked like I was trying to pick up johns at the supermarket. Something I probably could have gotten away with in high school without being sent home. I also really love the straight seam up the back of stockings, but really was not interested in sewing up a seam to get it. I wanted minimal coverage for the heel and toes (I hate it when the stick out of the holes) but I didn’t want it to interrupt the line of the sock too much and the bottom of the foot had to be open. Since my legs are pretty thick (That’s not my leg in the pictures, that’s my mom) I thought a strong vertical emphasis would be the most flattering so I opted for lace that is rather structured.
I’m pretty pleased with the result. It looks the way I pictured it and it meets the criteria I set, so really, I can’t ask for more than that!
Second Note: So I did a few swatches and choose fixation for the yarn. The plan is to make a sock. However, as I only bought one skein of the yarn just to play with, it’s entirely possible I will only have enough for one sock. That’s fine with me, I’m more interested in coming up with the design for this one. I can make the pair, later.
Also, getting a proper sock gauge was quite a challenge. How on earth are people getting 7 sts to the inch with this stuff on size 4, 5 and 6 needles?! The best I can manage is 6.5 sts to the inch on 2s. Knitting on smaller needles with this yarn just was not going to be fun.
First Note: I’ve got three projects signed up for wips wrestling, and I’m not feeling a one. I knew there was a reason I don’t do alongs. Too much pressure. I’m a little worried about my follow through on those (there’s a reason why they aren’t finished ;) However, I do well with fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants-make-stuff-up, so this one has the best chance of getting finished. Whatever it’s going to be.
