Update 9/12/22: Finally frogged, after sitting in time out for 3 1/2 years…i screwed something up just one row away from the bind off. sob Never found the motivation to fix it and in the time elapsed, I’ve learned that I don’t wear lacy, beaded shawls, as much as I love knitting them (and have no one to gift them to).
Reclaiming the yarn to use in something more my style.

Overview:

146g of Wolle’s to start
Frappe: sand --> beige --> taupe --> dark taupe

Beads Miyuki size 6/0 gilt lined rose opal from Chevron Trading Post downtown. They look really pink right now but it was the best match available…I totally don’t do pink…but hoping the yarn will bring out more taupe/gray tones.

For loose edge, add yo after first and before last edge st on RS, drop on WS.

Notes:

3/23: Cast on with US 4 needles by accident; changed to 5s on row 3, 6s on row 5.
Chart 1 and 1st repeat of Chart 2 done.

3/24: Plugging away at Chart 2 repeats.

3/25: More Chart 2.

3/26: Aaand more Chart 2.
Agonizing over whether to do a 6th repeat…according to the shawl calculator I can knit a total of 140 rows (including a super stretchy bo--three rows worth of yarn)…a 6th repeat will put me at 141 rows. Really want to use as much of the yarn as possible (and end up with a large shawl!) and worst case scenario my end color is available in 50g skeins…but sick of Chart 2 and would really rather not have to order more yarn.

3/27: Decided to forgo a 6th repeat (though I might regret it later)…other projects await and I like the look of the picot bo in a slightly darker color (if I don’t get to it by the end)--it really frames the shawl and shows off the picots. So…onto Chart 3.

Dropped a kyok and spent more time trying to fix it than it would have taken to tink and reknit the 500+ stitches (but then I stopped trying to knit it with the loose loop the way I would on live stitches, and instead compared it to another kyok, followed the path of the yarn and just tried to copy…and turns out it’s super quick and simple--new skill acquired. It helps to drop the neighboring stitches to have more yarn to work with).

3/28: Charts 3 are 4 done.

3/29: Switched to US 7 needles for Chart 5.
I worked the center stitch of the repeat of row 9 in Chart 4 extra loose but even so, I found the k(yok x5) (in row 1 of Chart 5) to be really fussy, especially with this unplied yarn--strings slipping everywhere. Tried a tiny crochet hook to make the knit stitches and slip them onto the needle--infinitely easier, faster and neater with nice and even tension (though purling them was its own slow and time consuming ordeal, and I still managed to miss a thread here and there and had to drop down to fix on the next row).

3/30: Still slowly working through Chart 5.

3/31: More Chart 5…up to over 700sts per row and beading makes it soooo s - l - o - w. Glad I didn’t do a 6th repeat of Chart 2 now--when calculating I totally forgot about the kyok ad infinitum, which almost doubled the stitch count…no way would I have had enough yarn. Would have had to order another cake to pilfer the end (Elisabeth doesn’t have any more taupe as just end color) and the shawl would have ended up with an unproportionally large dark taupe section at the bottom…which would annoy me to no end--enough to have to frog back to the last repeat, if not the whole thing in frustration.

4/1: Chart 5 done and onto the last one. Worried I might actually run out of yarn! Chart 5 used 31g, and I have 43g left for Chart 6…which will have 22 more stitches by the end…plus the picot bo.

4/3: Just two more rows to go…so close! I might have enough just yarn after all. crossed_fingers If it comes down to it, I can split the last few yards in two to bind off.

4/4: Found several mistakes in the mesh section and spent all morning dropping down to fix incorrectly leaning/misplaced decreases and beads…again, maddening to do with this unplied yarn.

4/9: One row to go before bo aaaaand…I’ve put the thing in time out. There’s something about the ends that I don’t like--several yo’s next to each other without decreases in between, totally out of pattern. Quite possible I screwed something up but both sides are the same (well, one is worse because I attempted lace surgery and made a bigger mess). I could forge ahead and no one would ever notice but it will forever bug me so taking a break while I talk myself into ripping out the last chart.
