11/24/2011: Cast on! This has been on my queue since I joined Ravelry in 2007, and on my to-knit list almost since I started knitting in 2006. Very excited to finally be starting it!
This will be my dependable, always able to grab the bag and go knitting project. I’ve been knitting a lot of small projects that require reading and then finish up quickly, so a nice change.
I am purling the row of stitches that will be dropped later and omitting the markers, as many others have done.
11/30/2011: Finished the increase section, which took a little over 70 g of yarn. Knitting as many rows/sections as the pattern.
12/8/2011: Finished the first ball of yarn, almost to the second repeat of the straight row section.
This project was put aside during holiday knitting and picked back up in Feb 2012 for the Finish, Frog, or Slog-along for the Doubleknit group.
3/9/2012: Almost to the end of the third ball of yarn.
3/15/2012: Started the decreases today! Very exciting! I love how each row is getting shorter and I love getting to drop TWO columns of stitches each row 8. I knit 3 more repeats of the straight section than as directed. It looks like the size will be perfect for me.
3/19/2012: Done and bound off! This is a beautiful, big, soft, delicious wrap and I am super-pleased. I have 20 g of yarn left, which I think would be enough for one more repeat of the straight section without running out of yarn, but I wanted to be cautious and not overshoot when I started the decreases. Still need to block.
Notes I collected from indigodragonfly before I started, although I did not remember to weigh all my yarn before I cast on:
Clapotis has the rule of fifths going for it. Use 1/5 for the increase section, 3/5 for the middle section and 1/5 for the decrease section. If you’ve got a scale, you can weigh the scarf as you go.
