Since these both turned out so small, I’m going to give them to some expecting mother as a baby gift.

These washcloths are really cute in the designer’s pictures. But… they turned out poorly for me. And I’ve been knitting for 60 years. This is a dysfunctional design that buckles/puckers/curls too much once completed and machine washed. I will NOT use this pattern again. To resolve the curling, I frogged the both the stockinette and garter stitch washcloths back to the midline in order to add four short row panels to them. This solved the misshaping issue for me

Stockinette Stitch Washcloth
I increased to 41 stitches to make this cloth wider and longer than suggested. When the buckling issue was corrected, I frogged it back to 33 sts.

Garter Stitch Washcloth
Increased to 33 stitches (not 31 as suggested). On the next RS row, I started four short row panels.

After having to do some serious wet shaping of the first washcloth to get rid of the buckle, I added four short row panels to flatten the cloth. Two panels were added to each side, which consisted of 4 w&ts each at 3 sts, 5 sts, 7 sts and 9 sts from the center stitch. The w&ts were 14, 12, 10, and 8 sts respectively from the edge.

The garter stitch cloth used 15.5 grams.
