Trying to make a pattern inspired by a couple of mittens from the 1950s, displayed at the museum in Ny-Ålesund.

The first attempt revealed that the original pattern turns into an angry face.. So I have made adjustments.

CO 44 st with double tread, color A on three double pointed needles.
Join in the round. Knit a Latvian braid (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia4Ii2KuSEA)

Knit 1 round in color A, increasing to 48 st.
Knit pattern with colors A and B.

From round 8, start inc for thumb gusset.
When you have incr 10 st and knitted 23 rounds, put 13 st on a thread and CO 3 st on the mitten, continuing in the pattern.

After round 54, start decreasing: K 10, k 2tog. Continue throughtout the round. Knit 1 round.
Next round: Knit 9, k 2tog all round.
Knit 1 round.
Next round: K 8, k 2tog all round.
Next round: K 1, k 2tog.
Break yarn and pull through all st.
