Pattern tweaks

  1. I used some different cast-ons for some of the pieces. Check out the bolded text below for my various choices.

  2. My Dolores has natural hair instead of black. That meant I had less natural yarn for the shawlette, so I did one less natural stripe in that item - I did 3 garter ridges in black before the bobble row.

  3. Instead of the coil at the top of the hat (I tried it and didn’t like it), I made a pompom to match the glasses out of some scrap yarn.

Errata: Two small errors seem to remain in the 7/18 version of the pattern:

the snout: go here for my suggested correction
and the shawlette set-up row: go here for the correct instructions.

Note: Comments from 7/6 through 7/8 reflect the 2.0 pattern.

7/6 -I finished the body and the snout.
For the snout, Id recommend changing to the Emily Ocker cast-on, the indicated JMCO looked sloppy to me.

I found some small errors in the pattern - go here
to see my first installment.

7/7 - attached snout and ears. I used a whipstitch to stitch together the ends of the ears. Looks ok. I wish there were better photos of the head with the glasses off.

For the tail, I used the Italian cast-on, since the pocket is done with double-knitting. Definitely the right choice. Note: there are no directions on where to attach the tail that I can find.

Legs - I used an “e” cast-on for the I-cord. Be sure to weave in ends at the color change a few rounds into the white - don’t wait ‘til the end because that will be pretty hard. If you choose to graft the top ends, I’d recommend knitting up to one stitch remaining of that plain 3 rounds, then move stitches accordingly. Now your working yarn is in the right place for the grafting. Then, at the end of graft, sew the last two stitches on each needle as if they were one to avoid a big “ear” at the top.

Yarn usage: I was able to knit the head, body, snout, tail, and 1 leg with 2 skeins of the natural. Plenty of yarn if you are close to gauge!

7/8 - pretty sure that I did the ears wrong but I may not change them. Arms and legs finished - will see if I can figure out how to attach them correctly.

Tried to start the shawlette, but as legaleagle has discovered, there is a problem at the very beginning of the shawlette pattern, either a problem with the cast-on or the set-up row. Grrr.
