I decided to try this pattern, although I think it works best with having the Sock Architecture book as well.

This project is to test out the pattern. I am using a solid sock yarn with a self-striping for the heels and toes.

Tried doing medium (64 sts) on size 1 needles, didn’t get gauge, so I ripped out and started over on size 0s. Worked ribbing for 1.5” and then stockinette for 1” (so they go over my ankle bones).

The manuveors for the thumb-joint heel are clear. I put the instep stitches on a 24” Size 0 circular. Then I took the new yarn and knit 32 stitches on the needles, then for my provisional cast-on, I took waste yarn and did a crochet cast-on for 32 stitches, then knit them onto the working needles with the new yarn, I added in one stitch in the gaps between the existing work and new cast ons to close them, then decreased on the next round.

I worked even for 3 cm (about 1.25”), in my case 15 rounds, then did the “hat top” heel and bound off.

The crochet cast-on was easy to pull out and put onto the working needles, then I slipped the stitches from the circular needles back onto my doublepoints, and did a 3-stitch gusset on each size of the bottom stitches (decreasing every other round), since my foot is narrower than my ankle size.

Continue working st st with the 58 stitches until I’m about 2 in from the end of the sock.
