7/16/14- tried on the coat and the length seems perfect at 28”. Now all I have to do is is sew the arm seams, find five buttons, and I’m done. Very cute coat, easy pattern, and I love the red color. Was going to do a stand up collar so I knitted six inches - now I think I like it as a regular turned up collar. Am heading to the yarn store to find some yarn for sewing the sleeve seams.

Bought this coat kit from Margy Mills, Yarn by Mills, at Maryland Sheep & yarn fest in early May, and started it immediately. Using size 11 needles, making the small size. Didn’t do a gauge swatch because this yarn is so curly. Worked out great.

My first top down project and I must say I see why people love them. So nice to be able to try on as we go. The sleeves are even perfect length - not too long for a change!

7/20/14- finished except for the buttons. Will use five buttons; if I have a wool coat for winter, I want to be able to close it against the cold.
8/23/14 - found pretty silver freeform buttons at The Fabric Place in Mt Lebanon, Pa. They have a barely noticeable touch of gold in the center. Will sew them on & be finished. A heavy, warm, beautiful red coat.

PS - since I have narrow shoulders, I decided to knit some shoulder pads. Was easy and helps the look. I just knit two squares, folded them on the diagonal, and sewed them in. Point facing the neck and the long line at the shoulder, of course. :)
