Notes

This bag is essentially a mini single-sided Doodle cowl without the ribbing … and with a bottom, eyelet band, and draw string.

Bag body

  1. Using 16” circular needle, cast on 72 stitches and join to knit in the round
  2. Knit 3 full chart repeats per chart to desired bag height minus top section. This bag uses 3 different charts from the Monster Doodle cowl and the colorwork portion is 35 rows.
  3. knit 9 rows (or to desired height minus eyelets) of stockinette in a contrasting color.
  4. knit 2 rows of *k2, p2* ribbing
  5. *k2tog, yo, p2tog, yo* around
  6. knit 2 rows of *k2, p2* ribbing
  7. Bind off tightly knit wise

Bag bottom (hexagon)

  1. starting in the middle of the first chart repeat (13 stitches from the first stitch), pick up and knit 72 stitches from the cast on edge
  2. (Optional) i-cord bind off around grafting first and last row into a circle and then pick up 72 stitches in the bottom most row of the i-cord.
  3. Hexagonal decrease section to be added when I have more time.

Afterthoughts for next time:

  • Start with an i-cord cast on
  • or better yet, start with a provisional i-cord cast on (live stitches on both sides of the i-cord) to avoid having to do extra pick ups and bind offs. I plan to add notes on this later when I have more time.

Drawstring

knit 2 stitch i-chord to desired length and thread through eyelets. I chose to thread behind the k2 eyelets and cover the p2 eyelets.

The project includes a bead slider that encloses both drawstrings, so the bag can be worn on the wrist (if using as a project bag or general accessory … because, really, it’s adorable!). It also includes beads added to the end end of the drawstring.
