Notes

September 7, 2025

Slowly plucking away at this - it was always intended to be a filler project, worked in between other projects, and so it’s moving slower than it could be.

Through the final repeat of color 11 already, almost done with the first triangle. But now it’ll be set aside again for business travel, vending at NJ Sheep and Fiber Festival, Goat shows, and life. It’ll be here when I’m ready to pick it up again.

Last repeat of section two on deck. We’re into color 13!

After a bit of a hibernation while I worked on other projects with deadlines, I got back to this one with a vengeance. I’m now on a push to the finish line.

Have color 23 on the needles now, 4 more rows before I introduce color 24 for the final round of stripes before the cast off and then grafting of the two triangles.

I’m glad I used this kit for this project, some of the later colors had obvious dye issues (white spots where the skein ties were clearly too tight) but since this project uses the colors in such a way that those defects don’t show at all, it worked out.

Hoping to find enough time to finish tomorrow, but the rows are long so it’s unlikely that I’ll get all the way through AND get the cast off / grafting done. One can hope though!

So, I probably should have read ahead or actually paid attention to the materials list before confidently stating I was that close to the end. I’ve even knitted this pattern before. D’oh.

My advent kit was 24 minis, the pattern calls for 25. And you can’t pull up short because the two triangles need to be the same size in order for them to line up and be grafted correctly.

Necessity is the mother of invention, right? Thankfully this set wasn’t really put together in any order that could be considered a fade or gradient, it really felt quite a bit more random - and although I worked it in the dyer’s order, I probably could have pulled a random mini blindly from the batch and still had a cohesive project. Given that, and the fact that color one is used for the final finishing, I grabbed color two and subbed that in for color 25.

Color one and two started the first triangle so there is very little of each of them in the first triangle, I don’t think anyone will be able to tell that color two was used twice.

All that I have left to go is the final full row of knitting, a half triangle bind off, and the grafting of the two triangles. Off the needles tomorrow if all goes as planned!

I should note that I used the icelandic bind off for the halves of the triangles that were bound off vs. grafted.

Off the needles!

Now for the remaining color reconciliation. Note that while these will be listed in the order I used them, which is the order the dyer had them in, I am no longer storing them with an order. They are not named or labelled, so they will be a random bunch of minis in a bag moving forward.
