2020 Advent yarn and pattern.

December 1st in Australia! Opened day 1 to find a beautiful blue yarn. Cast on and finished the knitting for the day.

Day 4, a shift towards green. I’m pretty sure I’m going to love this wrap and not be able to let it go.

Day 7, how many beautiful greens can there be? Getting tough to photograph the project all squished up on the needles.

Day 10 - a transition from Olive to Lavender. If you had told me it would work I’d have laughed. But this color is incredible in the blend and the way it flows seamlessly.

Day 11, almost halfway there. A lovely grey with purple undertones. If I could have requested a custom kit that only used colors in my comfort zone, this would be it.

Day 12 - a warm, charcoal gray. Another favorite, the many shade of gray. Plus a stitch marker apropos for 2020 the year of the pandemic.

After causing a spirited debate in the forum over the identification of yesterday’s charm - it has been confirmed as a crow skull. Other acceptable answers are Raven skull and Plague Doctor. So 3 times the mileage for that one! Today is a shift from gray to brown, and I can officially confirm that I have no clue where the colors are going any more, and I don’t care because each day makes the whole thing even better.

Day 16 - had to really rush to jam this day’s knitting in, but I got it done. Shifted from the Section A repeats we have been doing to Section B. Similar, but slightly more compressed in the pattern - likely due to the huge number of stitches on the needles.

Day 17 - are we really halfway through the second week? 600+ stitches on the needles, and today was yet another fabulous shade of brown. This one reads just slightly red to me, but I was wrong in all my other guesses as to where the color was headed, so I’ll just wait and see.

Travelling into deeper purples now. It’s so hard to believe that the end is nearing. For the record, I cannot praise this dyer enough for the kit, the progression and the color scheme is amazing. I will be back to her for more yarn sooner rather than later.

Day 22. Vibrant purple, shifting from the deep depths to a more bright shade. Finished pattern section B, read ahead for C and realized that the pattern calls for only 24 colors and the kit has 25. So I either need to do one extra repeat (which is no big deal) or figure out how to split the last repeat into 2 colors. I’ll probably do an extra repeat.

Day 24 is PURRRRple! There was an update to the pattern released today that changed what day 23 should be - it called for 2 full repeats of the section C rows, but should have read 1 repeat. My brain obviously knew that somehow, because I only did the one repeat yesterday.

The update also called for shortening today to a half repeat of section C, but I did the full repeat. I had plenty of yarn so no need to shortchange myself the beauty of the color.

Off the needles! Day 25 is a beautiful Blurple, and I couldn’t stand to only do 2 rows of it before the bind off, so 4 rows it was. Which means I ran that color pretty short, but still left enough to do day one if I want to.

Added a picture of the usage by color with a calculation on how it would work to knit it in reverse. There are 2 days that fall short on yarn, but the surrounding days could cover that shortage if needed. I don’t think the slight shift in where a color change happened would be a big deal.
