The stitch pattern comes from the Japanese stitch dictionary, 300 Knitting Patterns. I often use this volume as inspiration for my designs. This is an innovative variation on the classic backetweave design. I used the special features of the pattern to create pointed sides which can be worn as an unusual bolero.
