One of the hardest parts about taking printmaking classes for me is the fact that I don’t draw. I’m sure if I wanted to I would be able to draw simple things, but honestly, my focus is elsewhere. I want to use my own knitted samples to create the images on etched or collograph plates.
Sometimes when taking a class, in this case a 7 week intro to printmaking, you are challenged. When we got to the wood block section for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to get out of drawing, so here is the result.
I sketched the image of my knitted triangle on the wood block and awkwardly carved out bits that made it look somewhat lace like. Not my finest work, but far better then I was expecting.
