I fell in love with the colours of traditional Sami clothing when I discovered an instagram page titled Color My Past.

In particular the colours of the jacket, worn by the young man in this picture, inspired me to design the pattern for this hat.

Cast on 90 st using Tubular Cast On. Use a 4.5mm and green yarn for the 3 rows. Make one added knitted cast on stitch then join ends.

Change to 5mm needles and red yarn then knit 8 rounds of K1P1 rib.

Knit the next two rounds of green K1P1 rib.

Change to 6mm needles.

Start plain knitting with the one row of red.

Continue knitting the chart but change to 6.5mm needles when knitting the strand work and back to the 6mm when strand work is done.
