Update: 2/2/2013 Taught a class in the middle of a huge snow storm at The Artful Yarn to three delightful ladies on knitting my cape design! Fun!
The cape pattern is now available for sale!
Update: I just finished designing long, elegant cabled fingerless mittens to compliment the cape. I’m almost finished writing up this pattern as well.
My first foray into designing my own knitwear. The collar band includes a 9 stitch braided cable. The cape body is picked up from the collar band and knit in one piece from the top down. Eyelet raglan increases are made on either side of the shoulder encasing a braided cable. Braided cables descend from the neckline on either side of the cape fronts. I love this rich gold Fall color!
About 12 inches long now and the rows are realllllllly long!!! Fortunately the bulky yarn makes the project speed along.
16 inches long and I LOVE IT!!!! Over 400 stitches on the row right now. Took it off the needles and blocked it to take another set of pictures. I will do one more cable repeat (8 rows) and then on to the bottom edging which I am still figuring out. It fits beautifully. I can’t wait to wear this. I’m writing out the pattern as I create it.
I did 2 more repeats (16 rows) and decided on a garter stitch border with 5 ridges. I love it! I’m planning a 3 stitch attached I - cord button band.
Finished!!!! 23 1/2 inches long from collar top to the bottom of the cape. 155 inches in circumference. I love it, love it, love it! I made I-cord buttons adding a strand of black sock yarn to the Gold yarn after my husband mentioned the cape color was perfect for the Army-Navy Game (he’s a graduate of West Point). It is just the right length and very cozy. I can’t wait to wear it!
I’m almost done writing up the pattern! I wore it to work yesterday and it is wonderful! I will get a lot of use out of this.
My cape won a 3rd place ribbon in the annual Competition Night at the NCKG meeting 10/8/2013 in the “Original Design” category. Many beautiful items were submitted in this category! Talented knitters!
