My chemist friends inspired me to create this ‘test tube baby’. I realized that a test tube is shaped just like the finger of a glove, and since I’ve recently worked on gloves…..this is what I came up with:

I cast on 16 stitches on size 2.75 mm dps and joined in the round. I knit 4.5 cm in white and switched to pink for about another 8.5 cm. I then knit 1, k2tog for row one. Knit all of row 2 and k2tog for the last row. I threaded the tail through the remaining stitches and drew them up tight and wove in the ends. I used white and black/red roving to needle-felt two eyes and needle-felted them to the test tube body after stuffing it firmly with Polyfil. I used some pink roving (as suggested by my DH) for the ‘steam’ hair of the test tube baby. FUN!

Test tube baby #2 finished 7/17/12! This one is blue with blue wilder wool hair.

Test tube baby #3 finished 7/20/12 This one is green with green/blue/yellow “steam” hair.
