Notes

The patterns in this book call for casting on 90+ stitches in worsted weight. The Death Valley beanie came out fitting Hagrid the first time I made it. This one will be donated if it does the same.

I am used to worsted weight hat patterns that call for casting on around 80 stitches. I might rip and restart if I am not happy.

The chart seems like it would be better worked flat with a technique that doesn’t call for carrying the unused yarn at the back of the work. I would add a couple of edge stitches to disappear into the seam.

The chart also calls for a steeper decrease rate that could cause ripples.

One possible solution: CO 82, increase a stitch after the ribbing, work the chart without columns 1, 2, 12, 13, 23, and 24. Repeat rows 33 and 35.

My Fair Isle gauge in the round is far too tight. I have been working it on 81 stitches. I have to rip back to the ribbing and increase it to 90.

90 stitches was ideal. I am all done but the blocking. Because of stitch gauge difficulty at the point where colors change, blocking will be crucial whereas I can usually skip it for such a small project.

I added a braid and a tassel to make it a bit more silly.
