June 15, 2010 Update: So, um, yeah. She never wears this, mainly because the bottom of it is sized for a giant. So I took this, and following TechKnitter’s instructions, I ripped out the bottom portion and am reknitting it downwards. (See progression pics.) Muchmuchmuch better, and now she’ll wear it! Updated pics coming soon.
As I knitted certain parts of the sweater, I realized I’d have to seam them together later. I HATE SEAMING. So I fiddled with the side seams for a while and soon came up with a way of attaching pieces together as I knitted. I can’t really explain it, but it worked -- I did no actual seaming on this sweater. At all. :-)
I also had a moment of stupidity, and I picked up all the neckline stitches inside out. … Duhhhh … But my sister said she likes it anyway, and the fact is, I’m too lazy to redo it now.
The armholes were very scary, but I dealt with them okay, considering the mess I left myself to work with. It’s a bit big and foldy around them. One sleeve is wider than the other, too. My sister likes the sweater, though, and that’s what matters.
This is my first v-neck sweater (yikes!) and the first top I’m deliberately knitting for someone else. My sister and I came up with the design together, and she wanted a v-neck sweater with elbow-length sleeves. I had her pay for the yarn, but the labor was free. :-)
