Casting On

Skipped the tubular cast on and went for an alternating cable cast on instead (following this Youtube tutorial). Took me an hour but was still much easier than the alternative.

Knit ribbing on 3.0 mm needles.

Carrying Yarn

This is my first garment project where I am carrying the yarn up the body. I’ve read the notes on many people’s Shifty, where they did some shifting on the BOR marker to ensure that there wasn’t a jog where the colors were switched. So far, it doesn’t look like that’s necessary with this pattern?

The BOR will be under one of the arms so I don’t think it will be too visible.

Every time I am starting a row with a new color, I am using that to wrap the other two colors. No clue if this is the correct method, and only time will tell if it causes a jog/ weirdness in the fabric ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

Armhole Sizing

I am afraid of the armhole being too tight so I decided to look at the schematics of some other drop shoulder patterns in my library, that I already know I like the fit of. Most of them had around 20 inches for the opening of the upper arm.

The pattern as written has a 16 inch armhole for size 4, compared to the other patterns I was looking at, even the XS had a 17 inch armhole.

As I don’t like tight fabric in that area, I am adding an additional 1.5 inches to the front as well as to back, after separating but before starting the shoulder shaping. I had considered doing this after the shoulder shaping, but I think that would mess with the positioning of the neckline.

By adding 1.5 inches (x2), I hope to get an additional 3 inches for a 19 inch arm opening.

Sleeves

I have not worked on this sweater in many months, so can’t remember if I did anything different when casting on stitches when splitting the yoke. I didn’t like the look of the mattress stitch on the right side of the fabric, so I’ve decided to mattress stitch on the wrong side. Tbh it still looks a bit sloppy, but I am hoping it won’t be too visible on the right side.

I’ve also realized I did something weird cause the pattern repeats are not matching up when picking up stitches for the sleeves. To compensate, I am picking I row further in on the front.

Have 9 g of my first skein of fuwa fuwa and 36 g of my second skein of spincycle before starting the sleeves.

Picked up 112 stitches for the sleeve.

First pair of decreases on 4th pattern repeat. Second pair of decreases on 12th pattern repeat. 3rd on the 16th repeat, 4th in the 20th, 5th in the 24th, & 6th in the 28th. On the 30th repeat, do one round of decreases before starting ribbing, and then one last set of decreases on first row of ribbing.

Total 80 stitches.

Knit 16 rounds of ribbing before binding off with larger needles.
