Damascena is a gorgeous shawl. It is even more magnificent in 3 colours. I followed the pattern pretty closely when making the main body of the shawl.

Main Body
Here is how I made the colour change on the motif section

Yarn A: background colour (black)
Yarn B: contrast colour (beige)
Yarn C: motif background colour (purple)

Use Yarn C on the last 2 rows before the motif section.
On the motif section, substitute Yarn A with Yarn C.
After completing the motif section, use Yarn C to make the next 2 rows.

Border
I couldn’t figure out how to use 3 colours with the original pattern. Instead, I chose to substitute it with the Silhouettes pattern in the Short-row Color work Knitting book. The Silhouettes pattern has 60 rows. Each repeat joins 15 sts. With 386 sts on the border, there would be 25 repeats with 11 sts remaining. I spread out the 11 sts across the row. I used stitch markers to mark each repeat and where the extra join was made.

Damascena was fun to make. I loved how the colour work turned out.
