Yoga Waves

Notes

Making this scarf for one of my yoga instructors, who introduced me to a great yoga sequence by Matthew Sweeney called “Chandra Krama” - it’s a gentle variation of Ashtanga, but more “moon” than “sun.” Instead of going up and down, like in sun salutations, you go forward and back, like a wave in the ocean.

And so, the scarf: the garter stitch represents the vinyasas, like waves in the ocean; the stockinette is child’s pose; the drop stitch represents downward facing dog variations; the yarn over holes represent triangle variations; the cables represent various twists and binds; and the final band of drop stitch represents some leg-up-the-wall stretches.

This has been my favourite scarf to knit, of all the projects I’ve done. I mean, I think of all knitting as an act of love, but this was exceptionally so.
