Did swatches (hats) on steel needles. Size 8 was a half stitch off on gauge. I will probably have a different gauge with the bamboo needles I decided to use. But this time the swatch will be the first sleeve as far as I need to go to measure over four inches. Can’t bear to make another hat, plus maybe my color work will be a little more even. I can try that out on the sleeve. Just a hunch.

Terrible hunch! The bamboo needles gave me a gauge of 19 stitches for four inches. Ripped out after more than half the sleeve was done.

Now have both sleeves complete and am working on the pockets. A seemingly simple thing but now I’m worried about my row gauge when it comes tome to attach them. But have I measured? No!

Pockets are fine. I bound off with all knit stitches instead of in pattern. I thought maybe that would draw pockets in so they don’t gap. I’m not crazy about how it looks, though.

Seems like the sweater will be kind of large for Etta but I think she’ll wear it anyway.

It’s steeked! And a tricky business that is with super wash yarn. Very slippery. As I read up on how to steek, I saw that crocheting a line probably wasn’t the best idea, so I used my sewing machine. Difficult to do because it was hard to see exactly where my seam was. I didn’t use contrasting thread but I guess that would have helped. And difficult to keep the back clear as the sewing progressed down the front.

Anyway, it’s done and looks and feels okay. I blocked it first, as advised.

It’s done and in the mail to Etta. Impossibly large, I’m afraid. I made two hats trying to get gauge…measured the colorwork instead of the stockinette so I suppose that is why it’s so off.

I decided not to sew ribbon up the steeked sides. I couldn’t get the color I wanted plus it seemed so bulky with that extra layer, so I left the sides raw. They are double stitched and seem to lie flat.
