6.6.19. This scarf was so quick to weave. It took quite a bit longer to spin the yarn.
The cormo is from Bridget’s Farm Cart. I bought it as combed top on my birthday. It spun so beautifully, made a nice strong warp, and fulled really well. I spun it worsted, short forward draw, and plied. My plying was suspect, but Kelley worked on my wheel a bit, so I think my next plying will be better. Even the underplied parts were fine as warp, though.
The merino is from the fleece Kelley gave me for Christmas. It is a soft brown. Is that moorit? I don’t actually know. I scoured it, preserving the lock structure. I carded some and flicked some. Spun longdraw, then plied. It came out great--very soft and fluffy.
The weaving went fine. I am sorry I made it so narrow. I intended it as a man’s winter scarf to wear under an overcoat. Sort of a dress scarf. I made it about 8 inches on the loom. It ended up about 6 inches wide. Once I decided that it was going to be narrower than I wanted, I made it pretty long. About 84 + inches on the loom, finished at about 74-76 with short fringe. It’s super soft and very cozy, not a bit scratchy. The drape is fantastic. It may work as a man’s scarf, but I just don’t know. I may just keep it for myself. There is also a treadling error, which I didn’t find till after wet-finishing. I am going to look at it and see if I can correct it. I think I just omitted a pick, so it might work. Will see.
I am making a second scarf on the warp, but it will be short, since the first one is long. The lesson there is to put on a longer warp than you need. Which I thought I did, but obv not.
Need more practice spinning. But I’m pretty pleased overall.
