Dec 12. Rethreaded after finishing the Thousand Flowers scarf and decided to really to 18 epi instead of 20 as for Thousand Flowers. I’ll see how the drape is. Many false starts—after I checked the set-up using leftover handspun, I inadvertently changed the treadling a bit in IWeaveIt. Oops. Figured that out but when I wove my second trial run, the pattern still looked off. I walked away for the evening, and when I opened my eyes the next morning, I knew to check treadle 3, and I saw one of the tie-ups had slipped. Fixed that, and finally I am up and weaving.
The Polwarth is such nice fiber, and the dye work is gorgeous. The handspun really is beautiful with its irregularities, and I love the color variations. I am so happy with how this scarf looks. I’ve woven 50 inches, and I love it. I thought I would have enough warp for 3 scarves, but all my mistakes used a lot of warp.
12.18.2018. The scarf is finished and ready to be gifted. It is the loveliest thing I’ve ever made. The silk warp is so, um, silky. My new favorite warp, I think. I love the 18 ppi sett for this overshot. I did use two different silks of slightly different natural hues and a third one for tabby weft. I think this gives a subtle depth. The Polwarth is lovely. Not itchy and fulled just a bit with wet-finishing. I didn’t agitate it, just soaked in warm water with Eucalan and soaked again with a conditioner I bought from the Woolery.
The drape is very good. Scarf is perhaps a tad too wide, 10 inches on the loom. So next time I will make it a bit narrower.
The draft is fabulous! And it worked so well with the handspun with it’s intentional color changes and unintentional yarn thickness changes. It’s complex looking and visually fascinating. Very bold. A great scarf draft.
So happy with this project in every way.
