Knit another leg but don’t break yarn
Use scrap yarn to provisionally cast on 4 stitches, knit stitches from second leg, knit the other side of the provisionally cast on stitches removing scrap yarn for each one as you come to it-56 stitches
Knit all stitches in the round until the body measures 4 1/2 inches
K5, k2tg-repeat until end, 8 stitches decreased
K 2 rounds
K4, k2tg-repeat until end, 8 stitches decreased
K 2 rounds
K3, k2tg-repeat until end, 8 stitches decreased

Here I stopped and used duplicate stitch to embroider the face faceplate (you could also knit the faceplate separately and sew it on with a small bit of stuffing underneath to make it a bubble). I outlined a 12x18 stitch rectangle with black, filled it in with grey, and then used a sparkly blue held double to make the “shine” spot.
I also knit and sewed on the backpack* at this point.
Stuff lightly so it won’t be lumpy.

Pull yarn through 8 remaining stitches to close hole
to make backpack
Cast on 12 stitches
Work in stockinette for 4 rows
Cast on 4 stitches
Work across and cast on 4 stitches on other side
Work in stockinette for 20 rows
Bind off so the knit side has a purl edge to minimize rolling.
Sew corners together and sew to body using mattress stitch.
