I was talking with my favorite waitress about my big head and she said she could never find hats to fit because she too has a huge head. Who knew? So, I thought now was the perfect time to give her a present for being such a thoughtful waitress. I put earflaps on it and attached I-Cord around it. I also decreased a little differently. This is a beautiful pattern. I think I’ll have to make one for myself.

I used the earflaps from Leef’s Ear Flap Hat. They knit from the bottom up.

Had to use larger needles (8 for the fair isle part and 7 for the rest) to accommodate a big head. I also had to change the spacing of the earflaps. I cast on 54 for the front and 26 for the back. The ear flaps end up being 20 stitches each. Luckily, they are in the right spot. I think if you had a normal head; you would definitely want to use smaller needles. Maybe 5 or 6 with cascade 220 (my favorite yarn).

I also didn’t use this patterns decrease but used the decreases from the pattern “Helmet Liners” from:
http://denverlibrary.org/programs/fresh/knitting.html. This is my decrease of choice and I just adjust it accordingly.

Did one in cascade 220 with a size 6 needle and it’s perfect. My niece wanted this one lined; so I did.
