Notes

Cast on 96 stitches then decreased in groups of 8 very fast.

Oh yeah, took the antlers off the bottom deer. Just didn’t seem right.

Now I have to make one for my husband and sooo many other people want one. I’ve decided to hide it from now on.

I’m now casting on 104 for 1x1 rib and increasing to 105 for chart. Then decreasing back to 104 divided by 8 with only a knit row after the first three decreases then just decreasing. I’ve changed up the chart a bit to accommodate these stitches.

These hats are all a little different until I found the right combination. The tan and brown one fits the best.

Just checked the comments now. Better late than never in case someone else has a question about the decreasing. I knit one row after the chart and this is where I decrease one stitch to bring it back to 104 stitches. I just do this with the 1st 2 sts or anywhere I feel like it.

Then I knit 11; knit 2 tog (8x). I do one plain knit row after this one.
Knit 10: knit 2 tog. Then another plain knit row.
Knit 9; knit 2 together. Then another plain knit row.
Now I just do decrease rows without a plain row between. ie; k8; k2tog…next row k7; k2tog; etc until there are 8 sts left. Pull yarn through sts and you’re done. I do quite a bit of blocking with my steam iron on the wrong side. That’s why I only use 100% wool. I usually do the steaming about 5 rows after the chart. I put the sts on a piece of yarn to hold; then turn it inside out and steam the dickens out of it. Then I flip it over and steam lightly. My puckery hat turns out great this way. Then I just put it back on the needle and finish decreasing.
