Half cable cast on 14.
Kfb across.
Divide to 4 needles in the round.
Increase every other row til 64 sts.

After one row wo increases, first bump was almost used up. I cut the yarn, purposefully NOT even.

Knit til 2” before back of heel when tried on and stretched a bit.
K32 to get across instep, if needed to place heel in desired side of sock.
K32, wrap and turn, purl 32 wrap and turn.
K32, german short row (work last st, turn work, slip sts to right needle, tug yarn up and over), P31 german short row, continue short rows til abt 1/3 of 32 sts remain (10 sts).

On right side, K10, K double st, and German short row next st, on purl side P11, P double st, German short row next one, continue increasing # of sts worked until all 32 sts have been worked.

Mmm. German short rows bot my favorite for this application. The stitches twisted when knit on the 2nd half of the heel. In a thinner yarn that would have made an unacceptable gap. Consider knitting a few rows all the way around next time, or twisting the sts when knitting up the short row sts.

Notes on sort of random color changes:

I changed colors by purling both strands together for six stitches. I then knit around with the new color, and purled the six stitches again when I came to them on the second row. Then I hid the ends on the backside by pulling them through all six stitches with the yarn needle. I pulled each thread tight before threading it through the six stitches and after but then I stretched the sock to take up as much slack as I thought might ever be necessary. And then I cut the threads leaving about an inch so there’s plenty to avoid unraveling.

I have to confess to not being totally random in my yarn order selection. I attempted to alternate between light and dark. I also several times, pulled two bumps blindly from my bag, then chose which sock to knit each bump on…so random with some wiggle.

Fastest sock knit ever!

Estimate 400 yards.
