Notes

For Jen Hagan’s Test Knit

I have been through a lot of yarns to see which one would be best. I finally settled on the Falk because I plan on wearing it as my winter jacket which means I will be adding inset pockets and lining it with fabric.

September 6th:
Body cast on after debating if sleeves should be done first. Decided after knitting the ribbing that my gut was right… Sleeves cast on.

September 12th:
Finished 3 chart repeats. Need 2 more to complete sleeves.

September 17th:
I had to fight SlytherBun off in order to photograph them, but my sleeves are DONE. Now to continue the body I cast on the 6th…

September 19th:
First 28-row repeat done. With 1 skein = 2.75 inches, I need about 6 skeins before joining the sleeves.

September 27th:
Body and sleeves blocked. Now to combine them together and knit the bands. I plan on possibly adding a zipper to support the buttons.

September 30th:
Hit a snag in which I discovered on Monday night that I had misread the instructions for the yoke’s decreases. So I spent today frogging back (which took about 4 hours with my toddler taking my attention away) and was able to knit 9 rows. Turned in as partial for Herbology September 2014 homework.

October 2nd:
I have caught up to where I was at the beginning of Monday’s knitting stoppage. The shoulder shot of my wearing the cardigan is where I am.

October 3rd:
Button bands and collar, the armholes using @zzwhitejd’s grafting technique, some steam blocking and weaving in the ends left. I’m determined to hit the midnight-PST deadline!

October 5th:
While working the booth at the Knitting Guild of Tidewater in Newport News Fall Festival, I ran out of yarn but have a solution… The solution: I decided that if I had to frog my Somewhat Cowl in order to bind off, I might as well do an I-cord bind off so I can add a zipper.

October 6th:
Finished the knitting! Until I decide between buttons or a zipper, I’m using the bunny shawl pin gifted to me from Dory (at STS South 2011) to close my cardigan. I love the I-cord bind off with this jacket.

October 10th:
I have been wearing the cardigan everywhere and have been getting lots of compliments. Am still finishing up the hat which will be a much loved gift.

October 31st:
Turned in as Detention October Fall 2014 homework.

February 9, 2020

We had a plumbing flood incident in a bathroom and the sweater unfortunately was caught up in the cleanup.
