Notes

This skein is actually 103 grams (GRRR!) so it looks like I may have to use another yarn as the toe.

July 28th, Thursday:
Cake divided into to a 51g and 52g pair. Decided to do my best to avoid using another color for the toe and making a leg that is 1-inch shorter. Cast on and knit each cuff separately, then set up the needles to knit the legs 2AAT Melissa Morgan-Oakes style. Noticed I screwed up 2 rows down in going into the first 9 rows of the leg chart. Decided to call it a night after that.

July 29th, Friday:
Fixed errors, and knitted merrily along until I realized that after the 20th row of the chart I forgot to LC at the 9th and 16th rows. Decided to continue the legs as such as a “design element.” Went down 0.25mm in needle size after the 28th row for the last 7 rows. Heel flap and turn done in 2.50mm needle size. Note about the heel flap: PTBL is not easy in the 2nd row. Otherwise, the 2.5-inch heel flap (did 21 rows) and turn were not too stressful for this late night knitter. 32g used; 71g left after the leg. 40g used; 63g left after the heel turn.

July 30th, Saturday:
Continuing to use 2.50mm for picking up 13 stitch on each of the 4 sides and the first round in the bottom of heel and gussets while going back to the 2.75mm for the first row of instep. When gussets are done setting up, am switching sole needle back to 2.75mm and using 3.00mm for the instep. After the 2.75-inch gussets (14 rows on instep from when stitches were picked up), 51g used; 52g left. Time spent on the gussets: about 4 hours. Finally stopped after knitting a total of 4 inches of the foot with 10.5 inches to go! 59g used; 44g left.

July 31st:
With 6.5 inches left (recipient’s foot is 11 inches on the nose), I have 22g left for each sock. If I am correct, I should have 2-3g left over. Wish me luck!
