November 14, 2014:

Well shortly before I was going to send the hat, I discovered my cousin and his wife divorced. Since she never replied back on the kids’ actual measurements, I held on to the hats. Cue to today… My neighbor and her daughter (SlytherBun’s pal) needed an ear-flap toddler hat to replace the now-unraveled crocheted one that was gifted to them. Main photo is 18 month-old pal wearing it. <3

Awhile back, one of the first projects I ever made as a gift was Vinter Lue. Last winter, my cousin’s wife (does that make her my cousin-in-law?) asked me to make earflap hats for their 2 daughters. Ideally the colors had to be pink or purple.

Because they live in Oregon’s ski region, get snow in June, and are handknit worthy (they are appreciative of the work that goes into handcrafts) they get to have good wool.

My changes in this pattern:

1. I did not use fair isle at all. Instead I decided to use the rest of the skein that I had on hand.
2. Since I did not follow the fair isle pattern, I used a totally different way of decreasing for the top by integrating a spiral. It matches the other spiral hat that I made for the younger sister (but cannot find to save my life!). :)
3. Like I did in the last time I made this hat, I crocheted a chain instead of using braids.
