I am afraid I am going to run out of the yellow yarn for the rays and points. For some reason I thought there were 8 points, but there are 12…So, I am going to work in another A Hundred Ravens red-orange-yellow shade in the points.

UPDATE August 24, 2013 - I have been striping the rays on the edging and I think they look okay. I am doing the red orange on the raised garter stitch rows:

Project Summary: The Comet
This project is a knitted pi shawl with a Game of Thrones theme. It represents the comet that crosses the sky during the second book/season. Different people from different areas of the map claim the comet means one thing or another, everything from victory and vengeance to good luck or bad luck and even to Dragons.

I thought this sunburst shawl was perfect for the comet.

Yarn: A Hundred Ravens Iachos in colorways The Grand Master’s Carnelean, Prometheus, and Apollo
I plan to cast on with Carnelian, then use Prometheus, then Apollo.

Swatch/Gauge: The gauge is supposed to be 14 stitches and 27 rows done in the pattern. I am using the actual project for this. I have worked 26 rows (all of chart A) and it looks like I am on target with gauge.

I am a total fool for Game of Thrones. I am just past the halfway mark in book 4 and have also been watching the series. I have so many projects in my queue that are related to GOT that I may never get them all done and I keep finding more all the time. While watching the show and how they handled the red comet I was so inspired. I had just purchased this book of patterns with all this gorgeous Egyptian style lace and thought, “Hey, that sun shawl would be perfect for the comet!” It’s been sitting in my stash room waiting its turn to be made. And it would seem that now is the time. :)

Time Justification: This project will take me 3 months because I have so many things planned over the summer, including but not limited to: other knitting projects in and outside of this tournament (particularly a pair of socks to finish for a test knit and a silk shawl to do for a sample knit), working Mon-Fri, taking care of the household, and a trip to NC to visit my family will interfere with me knitting 24/7. Well, all that and actually sleeping each night. LOL.
