Notes

Let me share with you one of my most insane pet peeves: wet bathroom floors. I know that they get wet, and there’s not much you can do about it except bathmats. And bathmats are fine. We’ve had a pair of plush white bathmats since forever, and they are heaven on earth under your tootsies when they’re fresh out of the dryer. But after a few showers, they’re squishy and matted down and gross. They just don’t let the water out once it gets in.

Cotton to the rescue! These aren’t nearly as fluffy or soft, but it doesn’t feel like stepping on a used kitchen sponge every time you get out of the shower.

This project was inspired by this style of mat, but I wanted the hexagons to look like a honeycomb, so I used a variant of this hexagonal washcloth. I made 35 motifs and sewed them all together afterward (I’d have joined them as I went along, but I’m not that clever yet). I had quite a bit of leftovers after I was done, so I threw together another one for in front of the sink. I’ll end up replacing it with another hexagonal one in the near future, I think.
